The Hampton Roads Chapter of AITP
proudly announces a Special Event featuring Kelley DuBois of
Microsoft Corporation.
Are you ready for Microsoft SQL 2005?
How about Windows Vista? Think about your current SQL system: Can
you still access your database if the server goes down? How fast can
you failover? What is your Maintenance Plan? Who is Locking and who
is Blocking? Join us as we discuss upgrade an existing SQL Server
database to SQL Server 2005 and how to maintain a more secure,
reliable database solution for your business. As an added bonus,
lets take a sneak peak at Windows Vista.
The Seminar will be conducted at the
Tidewater Community College Technology Center located on the
Virginia Beach campus at the end of Faculty Boulevard (1700 College
Crescent). The time is from 7 PM to 9 PM on Thursday, October 27th.
There is no cost to attend; however
there will be refreshments served and great door prizes available.
For this event only, The Hampton
Roads Chapter will offer a much reduced year's chapter membership
dues (check out the AITP web site at www.aitp.org)

Meeting Preview |
Our
November 1st. meeting will feature a presentation by
Max Bartholomew Jr.. Max
will speak on the
"State of Dominion Resources“.
In
addition
he will speak on
the deregulation time table for utilities under the Electric
Restructure Act.
Max is the Eastern Regional Senior External
Affairs Manager for Dominion Power. He holds a
Bachelors Degree in Business Administration
from Old Dominion University, class of 1970. He has worked for
Virginia Power for 34 years in
Fredricksburg, Charlottesville, Richmond and Virginia Beach. He
also
attended the University of Michigan Executive Program in 1996.
He is very
active in the community and was the
South Hampton Roads United Way 2000 Chairman of Board of
Directors. He was also a member of the Virginia Peninsula
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Virginia Air & Space
Center Board of Directors, the City of Virginia Beach Industrial
Development Authority, the City of Virginia Beach Resort
Advisory Commission, the Virginia Aquarium & Science Museum
Board of Directors, the
Cape Henry Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the
Virginia Beach Friend of Agriculture 2002.
He enjoys golf and deer hunting. He has a wife,
Liz and a son, Tripp.

October Meeting Highlights |
|
Our October 4th meeting
included a presentation by Scott Dewhirst. Scott spoke on the
technology used in the
water
industry. Scott is employed by The City of Newport News in the
Waterworks/Public Utilities Department. He currently serves as
the Chief of Facilities Engineering where he oversees the
engineering support for all of the Waterworks facilities ranging
from dams, storage tanks, pump stations, and water treatment
facilities. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia
and South Carolina where he previously was employed as an
engineering consultant. Scott is a native of Virginia. He was
born and raised in Richmond and attended Virginia Tech where he
obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil and
Environmental Engineering, respectively.
