Region 18 Spring Conference! |

The Hampton Roads and
Richmond Chapters of the AITP will be co-hosting the Region 18
Spring Conference (www.aitp-hr.com/region18). The tentative date for this event is

November Meeting Preview |
Our December 5th meeting will
feature a presentation by Lorene Alba. Lorene is the Assistant
Volunteer Coordinator for the
Jamestown-Yorktown
Foundation. Lorene will speak on the volunteer program, (the
Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation currently has over 500 volunteers)
the Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center along with
the special events planned for 2007.
Lorene is a graduate of Johnson &
Wales University, and after a successful career as a chef and
restaurateur; she decided to turn her passion for volunteerism
into a full-time job. She has over 15 years of volunteer
recruitment and management experience. She has volunteered her
time with organizations such as the John Elway Foundation, Relay
for Life, The Alzheimer’s Association and the SPCA. She was a
campaign coordinator with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and
while at the Peninsula Agency on Aging, Inc. she was responsible
for the recruitment and management of 400+ volunteers.
Lorene is on the Board of
Directors for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the
Virginia Peninsula, a clearinghouse of volunteers 50 and over.
This is spouses (or significant
others) night, so please plan on joining us.

November Meeting Highlights |
Our
November 14th meeting featured a presentation by James
“Chico” Manzie. James is a Master Firefighter - Hazardous
Materials Specialist for the City of Newport News, who spoke on Hazmat Technology.
Mr. Manzie has 22 years in the
department, 12 years as a member of the Regional Response Hazmat
Teams. He is also the tractor-trailer driving instructor. Mr.
Manzie was also selected as the
departments "Firefighter of the Year" in 2005.

Chapter Meeting Price
Increase |
Due to price increases at the hotel, the Chapter Board voted to
up the Dinner Dues from $17.00 to $18.00 for HR members Dinner
meal, starting in January 2007.
An increase in cost for Guest
dinners will be determined at a later date.
Also, Members are encouraged to
bring their spouse or significant other to the December Dinner
meeting. The cost will be $17.00 for member and also, $17.00 for
their guest.
Position: IT Analyst / Hampton
University
Department: Computer Center
Description: The IT Analyst
supports the implementation and maintenance of University-Wide
administrative systems in collaboration with university
personnel. The successful candidate will act as a technical
member of a team by providing technical and functional
assistance, expertise and performing assigned tasks. They will
develop, write, test implement and maintain moderate to complex
application programs in a diverse technical environment;
ensuring accuracy and efficiency. In addition, they will
maintain accurate procedures and technical documentation. The
candidate will also acquire operational and functional knowledge
of specific area of administrative system.
Minimum requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent training
and experience.
• Experience with SQL.
• Experience working with a reporting tool, such as Oracle
Reports.
• Experience working in Windows (XP) and UNIX environments.
Additional Desirable
Qualifications:
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and strong analytical
skills.
• Experience with SunGard Banner, and Oracle Databases.
• Knowledge in PL/SQL.
• Experience with Oracle Developer (Forms)
• Experience in API development
• Willingness to learn new technologies.
• Ability to effectively plan, document, and communicate.
• Experience in an academic environment.
Essential Functions • Ability to
work in a team environment in addition to working independently
on routine assignments.
